The Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club/Hilton Kingston Hotel Sprint #2 will take place on Sunday, May 18, starting at 9.30 a.m. at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. The event is being organized by Team Xpress Racing with chief organizer Rosie Jadusingh. The speed bumps are being removed and paved over to make the racing surface more acceptable…lessons learnt from the first event. There is also a new track design being considered..more on this later, but a layout quite similar to the Ironshore track with a lane change is being considered. Circuit drivers are encouraged to make use of this event as a final shakedown test for the 1st leg of the Caribbean Circuit Racing championships to be held on May 25 at Dover Raceway

The Montego Bay Motoring Club (MBMC) in association with JAGDYB Friendship Racing and under the auspices of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) wrapped up the 2007 National Dexterity Championships on Sunday, November 18, when they successfully staged the Grand Finale’ Wet ‘n Slide Dexterity test at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Kingston. With the kind cooperation of the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) for the use of their world class karting facility, the event ran incident free under the blazing sun. Unlike the 2006 local MBMC series last year, the rains never came to lend much needed cooling to both the high grip surface or the competitor’s temperatures, but the small number of spectators and drivers mostly from May Pen and Montego Bay had a great time at what was once a runway for the Norman Manley International Airport. The first true test of speed on the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club’s (JMMC) calendar was held on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the Vernamfield Airstrip in Clarendon and set the stage for an exciting season of racing in the rally sport discipline.
Now, the term abandoned airstrip is somewhat of a misnomer in reference to the place called Vernamfield, as although the US Armed Forces may no longer be present at the strip, thousands of thrill seeking, horsepower loving Jamaicans from every walk of life flocked to what has evolved to become the speed metropolis of central Jamaica to witness the first of six events in the Jamaican National Sprint Championship, this year title sponsored by Kir Dex Transportation Services, TVJ, KFC, Wata and Radio 92 FM. The sun was out in all it’s glory as the high ambient temperature sought to match the scorching times being laid down on the track by the forty two (42) competitors entered in nine different classes on the day.

In characteristic fashion, the club ran an entertaining and well organized event that saw a large spectator turnout to complement the thirty three (33) strong field of competitors entered in the front wheel drive (FWD), rear wheel drive with limited slip differential (RWD-LSD), front wheel drive with limited slip differential (FWD-LSD) and four wheel drive (4WD) categories.

“Back to Business”, the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club sanctioned Kir-Dex Transportation Services/Tropical Battery Sprint #6 took place at the Badda Badda raceway in Priory, St. Ann on Sunday, September 4, 2005. The sun seemed to be at its closest point to the earth at this venue, as despite being a beachfront property, no amount of sea breeze was enough to cool the temperatures as Jamaica’s best rally drivers scorched the redesigned, one mile track. Outside of the heat, conditions were perfect for a thrilling day of racing, as thirty two competitors took to the track in an effort to post fastest times of the day.
Coming out on top as has now become the norm since the start of the 2005 rally sport season was Gary “The Colonel” Gregg in his Kentucky Fried Chicken/B D Gregg & Bros. /Kingston Industrial Garage Ford Focus World Rally Car, posting a best 2 lap time of 2m 32.500secs. to place himself 0.9 seconds clear of Douglas “Hollywood” Gore in second place driving the Slam Condoms/Motor Sales & Service Ltd/Sandals Resorts/Rick’s Café/Walkerswood Caribbean Foods/Western Wheel Alignment/Amsoil/DMS Distributors/Sherwin Williams Paints Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 (2.33.400). Placing 3rd in class was Peter Moodie Jr. in the NG Racing/KIA Motors/Citrix/Moore’s Business Forms Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 in a time of 2.34.710. Fourth was Leslie Madden in the RMS Racing Subaru Impreza WRX Sti (2.36.230), while Rory King ( Slam Condoms/Rory’s Texaco/Sandals Resorts Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 ½ ) 2.37.920 and Guy Fraser (Value Buys Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6) 2.38.730 were 5th and 6threspectively.
